Welcome to Pullmania

August 27, 2025

By Jaime Díaz, PhD

¡Bienvenides Cougs! On behalf of the Chicanx/Latinx Student Center (CLSC), I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all students. The CLSC is located in CUB 402, and we invite you to join us at one of our many events featuring free food, music, study help, and a space to hang out.

It’s an exciting time here in the Palouse—what the late WSU poet Dr. Ricardo Sánchez called Pullmania. Once again, Pullmania is alive with the energy of 25,000 students, and all feels as it should.

I’d like to introduce myself and tell you more about what this blog will be. My name is Jaime Díaz, and I am the CLSC retention counselor on the WSU Pullman campus. I’m originally from Greeley, Colorado, but I’ve lived in many places—from Ashland, Oregon to New York City and even Scotland. I’m thrilled to be your CLSC retention counselor and to support all students here in Pullmania in their academic, social-cultural, and professional journeys. Our main mission at the CLSC is “¡Éxito y comunidad! (Excellence and community!)”.

To support that mission, I’ve launched this blog as a digital archive for the CLSC. Here, we’ll highlight campus events, celebrate student successes, share opportunities, and feature interviews with alumni, faculty, and staff. We’ll also post recipes and offer tips for cooking delicious, culturally meaningful meals on a budget—along with many other topics to support your success and explore the meaning of community.

Student life today is more multifaceted than ever, and this blog will reflect that richness with a wide range of content. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and keep an eye on Involve for upcoming events. A few upcoming ones include:

Stories of BIPOC Disability & Neurodivergence
Monday, Sept. 8 | Noon – 1 p.m. | CUB 402
*Lunch provided

Latiné Heritage Month: Raíces de Libertad: From Resistance to Liberation
Monday, Sept 15 | 6 – 8 p.m. | CUB Jr. Ballroom

We look forward to hosting you at the CLSC in CUB 402 and beyond.

To our returning students, welcome back! And to our newest Cougs, congratulations and welcome home —to Pullmania!

Atentamente,
Jaime
